Petersfield 17 Warlingham 14: HAVING come up agonisingly short last week away to Teddington, Petersfield returned home on Saturday to meet the league’s fifth-placed team, Warlingham.

The teams shared possession and territory in the first quarter, only for the visitors to be more accurate and score two converted tries.

In the second quarter Nick Blumlein kicked two penalties to cut the Warlingham lead to eight points.

Field were forced to defend a wave of Warlingham attacks just before half time and managed to hold out without conceding, despite Field losing Harley Orr to the sin bin. A player from each team was then sent to the sin bin for engaging in some off-the-ball handbags.

The home side’s 13 players came out fighting and dominated the second half, and Blumlein added another penalty to make it 14-9.

The hosts were soon restored to 15, and Warlingham gave away a number of penalties.

One of those led to Field’s first try, when flanker Zac Jenkins powered over from a lineout on the Warlingham five-metre line. Blumlein missed the difficult conversion, but the try had tied the two teams at 14-14.

The visitors were reduced to 14 players again and the Warlingham defence conceded a penalty with a tip tackle in the 22, smack in the middle of the posts. Blumlein stepped up and coolly kicked the three points.

Warlingham had the chance to draw level late on with a penalty kick, but the penalty was missed as Field held on for the win.
