CHURCHER’S College under-15 A rugby side have progressed through to the last eight of the National Schools Cup Plate competition.

They defeated the Cottesloe School from Buckinghamshire 55-12 in a physical, but enjoyable encounter.

In muddy and windy conditions Ben Allden scored five tries and George Davis scored two. Archie Somers and Rory Plewes picked up one try apiece with Joss Hall converting five of the nine tries, not bad given the headwind in the second half.

This is a fine achievement for the squad who will face an even sterner test in the quarter final, which will be a home fixture against either Mount Kelly School from Devon or Chosen Hill School from Gloucestershire.

Earlier in the afternoon director of sport Dan Cox joined grounds staff mopping hundreds of litres of water from the sodden pitch, in order for the game to go ahead.
