CHURCHER’S College pupil Tom Bloomer has been awarded the under-16 Keast Award by the Hampshire Rugby Football Union (RFU).

The Keast Award was created in memory of former player Robbie Keast, who had played for the county’s under-15s, under-16s and under-17s and died in a road accident at the age of 22 having just gained first class honours in engineering at the University of Warwick.

His family and friends made a very generous donation to the Hampshire Schools’ RFU, which has enabled two awards to be made in his memory – one for the under-16s and one for the under-18s.

The two Keast Awards are made in recognition of commitment and dedication, and are made to players who show true qualities of sportsmanship.

The trophy and tankard for Tom’s under-16 Keast Award were presented at the Hampshire RFU annual general meeting.

Tom said: “It’s a real honour to receive this recognition from Hampshire RFU and in Robbie Keast’s memory.

“There are some really inspiring players who have received this award before me.

“Being presented with this award has made me more determined to be the best player I can be for Churcher’s and Hampshire.”

Also recognised at the ceremony at the Hampshire RFU annual general meeting was former Churcher’s College pupil Stefan Younghusband, who picked up the Hampshire RFU under-20s captain’s prize.
