THE CONDITION of Ben Wakefield was foremost in Petersfield head coach James Alder’s mind after the 62-12 defeat at Old Georgians.

Alder said: “This was a tough day on the field for the team, made even harder for them by the injury to Ben. Our thoughts are with him and we hope he recovers fully.

“Before the game moved to a second pitch, we were able to discuss our strategy and, on the re-start, were able to put some good phases together. This effort was rewarded with Ryan’s try.

“In the second half we set up good attacking positions in the Old Georgians’ 22, only to miss the opportunity to gain points through our own errors.

“We were forced to move players around to try to maintain our structure, but our weaknesses were exploited by the Old Georgians’ open running game and they took advantage with some very good tries. This was a very hard lesson to learn, a big defeat that will hurt.”
