PETERSFIELD Rugby Club has announced the appointment of a new coaching team that will work under the guidance of director of rugby Bernie Rhodes.
The team is a mix of new coaches joining the club and some old hands who are well known and in a position to offer club experience and facilitate a smooth transition.
The new coaching team want the players to respond positively and be prepared to work hard and develop, but have fun while doing it.
Jason Ford has been appointed head coach, Jim Pearce is rugby advisor, Tom Cheeseman is technical advisor, Andy Patience is forwards’ coach, Charlie Hoff will help develop the other backs’ coaches, and Andy Barnes will be a player/coach.
Calvin Shenton and Dave Duffus have joined the club as coaches, Ruth Chinnock continues as club physio and Mathew ‘Ruby’ Murray will head up strength and conditioning training.
In addition to the senior section, the new set-up provides opportunities for the development of the whole club. When available, Cheeseman will be on hand to offer advice to junior players about what it takes to play professionally. He also hopes to run coaching seminars for all age-group coaches.
The coaching team will attend junior section training sessions through the season and will be accompanied by senior squad players.
There is an open invitation to all junior coaches to watch the senior training sessions and interact with the coaching team to learn and share knowledge.
