PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s double-winning head coach James Alder is looking to strengthen his senior squad ahead of the club’s foray into the London 3 South West League next season.
Having secured promotion and a cup win in his first season with the club, Alder is not resting on his laurels in pursuit of the continued development of the senior teams.
Plans are already well under way to bring further coaching resources into the club to help develop the second and third teams and improvements to the club during the close season will enhance the rugby experience at the club.
The coach has no doubt that he requires fresh blood to help with the goals of the club and he is looking for more senior players to join Petersfield.
Alder said: “The first team exceeded expectations last season, but there is no reason why we can’t become a force in the London leagues and continue to develop our other teams through the Hampshire set-up.
“We recognise that we will not be able to do all this without a bigger squad to choose from, so we’re starting a recruitment campaign to bring new players into the club ahead of pre-season training.”
Alder is putting his message out to all senior players, including those who may have drifted away from the game over the years.
Alder added: “We want players of all abilities to join us. All we need from them is the willingness to work with us to improve their fitness and skills and the commitment to turn out for the team throughout the season.”
The club will receive a major boost this summer as work starts soon to radically alter the clubhouse layout to provide a large, fully equipped, strength and conditioning gym.
With the addition of a physical training instructor bringing a professional approach, the refurbished facility should help with the general levels of fitness of all players, young and old.
The facility will also be available to non-playing members of the club.
