Weybridge Vandals 16 Petersfield 7: PETERSFIELD suffered from serious injuries and player absences as they travelled to Weybridge Vandals.

Field’s patched up squad contained yet another debutant, as John Cain stepped in and made an immediate impact with Petersfield’s only try of the match.

Weybridge’s relentless pressure prevented Field from settling into their stride and won the hosts the bulk of territory and possession in the first half. Field defended grimly and mounted attacks when they could but the ball would not stick at key moments for both sides and chances went begging.

Towards the end of the first quarter the home side opened the scoring with a penalty. Cain was then able to finish a good Field move with a powerful drive for the line following a decent passage of play. Nick Blumlein added the conversion.

The Vandals knocked over a penalty minutes before the break to take the teams into the second half with a solitary point between them.

The second half was like the first with Weybridge pressing hard and Field trying to play positive rugby with the clean ball they had.

The home side scored an unconverted try early in the second half off the back of a series of penalties.

Halfway through the third quarter a player from each side was sin-binned.

The final score came with minutes of the second half remaining, when Weybridge drove a lineout maul over in the corner. The try was unconverted.
