Petersfield 50 Ventnor 10: PETERSFIELD’S first team bounced back from a run of disappointing results with a convincing win over Ventnor.
After losing their last two league games, Petersfield’s first team needed to regain their previous confidence levels and build on the positives seen in their last game at Ellingham and Ringwood.
From the first whistle Field cut loose to dominate the game and the scoreboard.
Ventnor battled bravely, with a score in each half, but could not cope with their revitalised hosts who ran in eight tries in all. Matt Painter was back in action with the boot, completing five of the conversions to extend Field’s lead even further.
The eight tries were shared between the backs and forwards. Perennial try-scorer Tom Franks nailed a hat-trick and his second try was a magnificent solo effort, sprinting 60 metres and bursting through three tackles on his way to the line.
Josh Haslett and Painter poached one try apiece, and the backs were well served by Michael Robins and Frazer Patience who ran the game.
Field’s pack continued their season-long domination of the scrum, forcing both of the visitors’ props to go off the field to bring about uncontested scrums. Field’s lineout was in top form, and the pack got in on the scoring act through Harley Orr, who bagged a brace, and the impressive lock, Franko Tomic, who got one try.
