Eastleigh Colts 42 Petersfield Colts 7: A LARGE list of injuries and absentees left Petersfield Colts with only 13 players for the friendly match away at Eastleigh.

Sportingly Eastleigh lent Field a couple of players which, while not ideal, at least made for a 15-a-side match. With some players out of their normal position in the Field squad it was not long before Eastleigh opened their account with their first try and conversion. While there were many individual contests on the pitch that were evenly matched the consistent and well-organised structure of the Eastleigh team paid dividends in the overall pattern of play and before too long they were 21 points ahead.

Dominant in the scrum and winning most line-outs, Eastleigh were 35 points to the good in the second half before Field troubled the scoreboard. After a concerted period of pressure from the away team, Matthews scored a try which he converted. Field were guilty of too many solo runs with a lack of support. Eastleigh capitalised on this, moving the ball well through the hands, finishing the match with a further try.
