Field started the brighter of the two sides, dominating territory and possession, camping in the Tottonians 22. A range of attacks from Kay saw Field go close, before the forwards took over and a barging run from Cox saw Barden touch down.

The visitors let themselves down with some poor tackling, enabling Tottonians to work their way to the Field five-yard line.

From the resulting scrum Tottonians crashed over, and the try was converted.

The Field scrum dominated the home side. A scrum on the ten-yard line saw the backs in full flight, Kay popping up in the centre before a long pass released Hughes, who cut back in to score.

Field won another scrum ten yards out which saw Sloan break before popping the ball back to Hickman to crash over. Sloan converted.

Field won another scrum and Kay fizzed the ball to Tribe, who touched down under the posts. Sloan added the conversion. Tottonians crashed over in the corner for their second try, and Field led 24-12 at half time.

Field’s first score in the second half came when Sloan found Kay, who drew his man before releasing Davey who scored under the posts.

Kay was sent to the side line, but despite being a man down Field upped their game. Sloan’s kick up field bounced into the arms of Davey who released Mackay, who ran 20 yards before passing to Davey who touched down.
