New Milton Colts 35 Petersfield Colts 10: A MATCH of contrasting styles saw New Milton Colts run out winners against Petersfield Colts.
From the start the hosts put Field under the cosh with a driving brand of rugby, and they were rewarded with a try in the corner.
Field responded well and Kay drew the defence and put the ball to Davy, who created space for Mackay, and he drew two defenders before putting Constable-Chichester in for a try. Mackay had injured his ribs, though, and was soon replaced.
Sloan then spent ten minutes in the sin bin, and New Milton scored in the corner to lead 10-5 at half time.
Field got back on level terms when Sloan scored the away side’s second try.
New Milton lifted their game and drove up the park for another try.
The visitors struggled to cope with New Milton’s fast off-loading game, and the home team crashed over for their fourth try.
Field’s heads dropped and the home side turned the screw further.
The visitors had no answer to New Milton’s driving mauls and quick handling as the hosts added another try.
Field did not give up and drove back at the home side. Clawson went on a run towards the try line, but the home defence kept him out.
The final five minutes saw New Milton go back to their diving game plan, and the home side finished the match with a well-taken try.
Petersfield’s Barden was shown a yellow card for an incident at the end of the match.
