Ellingham and Ringwood Colts 14 Petersfield Colts 15: PETERSFIELD Colts travelled to Ellingham and Ringwood for the last regular league game of the season with 14 players.
Ellingham and Ringwood lent Field a player each half and Field put the hosts under pressure for most of the first ten minutes. Stout defence from the home side was finally overcome when Matthews scored via a well-judged kick to put Field 5-0 ahead.
From the restart Field once again had the best of territory and possession for a good while. A hurried tap and go from a promising position for Petersfield was turned over and produced a fine break for the opposing number ten, who offloaded well for a converted try to put the hosts 7-5 ahead.
More pressure from Field resulted in a penalty just outside the 22 and captain Ullyott ensured Matthews kicked at goal to retake the lead 8-7.
In the second half Ellingham and Ringwood put Field under pressure and, after a couple of well defended phases, they scored a converted try to take the lead 14-8.
An impressive try-saving tackle by Hughes then stopped the hosts scoring in the left corner.
The game opened up and Matthews broke through midfield and found Blackwell in support to score for Field.
Matthews converted the score to regain the lead for the visitors with about 12 minutes left to play.
Field were then able to play the rest of the game in the right areas of the pitch and earn a tense win.
Petersfield Colts now look forward to the play-offs.
