Petersfield Colts 48 Overton Colts 5: PETERSFIELD’S Colts wrapped up a fine weekend of senior rugby with an emphatic 48-5 win against visitors Overton.

Field reversed their two match losing streak to lay one hand on the league title, there is only one team who mathematically could still tie for the top spot.

Field played reduced numbers to match Overton’s 13 players and applied pressure from the off, spending the first few minutes in the Overton 22. Forceful drives from the Field forwards enabled the backs to spread the ball and the final offload from Heath enabled Alexander to score the first try on the wing.

Ill-discipline cost Field territory on more than one occasion and they had to dig deep to hold Overton out from their five metre line. Heath scored twice for Field in the first half with his pace undoing the defence. W Matthews hit the post on the first attempt but made sure of the next effort as well as converting the try made by Wood from a training ground move executed to perfection to end the half 24-0.

The second half proceeded in much the same fashion with Field denying Overton any real opportunity to get going or to trouble the scoreboard. Captain Coles was immense in the breakdown and it was not long before Heath was able to run in another try for Field.

With Overton injuries mounting, Field continued to reduce their numbers to match their guests, also lending them one of their strongest players to ensure the game continued. Field’s generosity was immediately repaid as the loanee duly ran through a few of his former team mates, offloading to enable Overton to get off the mark. It was however not long before Stevens and Cowlrick added to the scoreline for Field followed by Heath, who mopped up a loose kick and ran in under the posts to seal the win for the home team.
