Petersfield Colts 0 Basingstoke Colts 26: PETERSFIELD Colts played Basingstoke in a friendly match at Penns Place on Sunday.

Field started brightly and were the more aggressive at the breakdown in a keen contest. The home team spent most of the first half in the opposition’s territory and came close to scoring a few times but never quite managed to complete a series of phases to start the scoreboard moving.

Basingstoke also came close but solid defence from Field meant they had the best of the play in the first half in terms of possession and territory.

After sustaining a couple of injuries Field had to swap players into unfamiliar playing positions and deep into the second half Basingstoke started to dominate the scrum.

From that they were able to secure ball through the pack and feed the backs to score four times before the final whistle. With some impressive conversion kicking the visitors ended the game 26 points to the good with Field having nothing to show for all their hard work.

Basingstoke deserved the win but Field can take many positives from a good match against a higher division team.
