Petersfield Colts 19 Gosport & Fareham 5: PETERSFIELD Colts returned to winning ways with a victory against Gosport and Fareham.

Field had the best of the play in the first 15 minutes of the game but failed to capitalise and turn pressure into points.

Perhaps frustration led to an ambitious penalty attempt from the halfway line that fell short, giving Gosport and Fareham time and space to run back at Field.

It was well into the half before Field finally moved the ball quickly from the back of a scrum across the pitch, with Kay feeding McKingtosh who scored close to the posts. Mathews converted and soon scored a try from his quickly-taken penalty, dummying the defence to touch down in the corner just before half time.

In the second half Gosport and Fareham showed they were intent on getting back into the match, and with Field losing focus in an increasingly tetchy and feisty game, forced their way over the whitewash with 20 minutes left. Field reverted to their game plan and Wilde, breaking tackles, powered his way over the line. Mathews added the conversion to make the game safe with just two minutes left.
