Petersfield Colts 55 Overton Colts 48: PETERSFIELD Colts remain top of the league after a close win against Overton.
Having rescheduled a postponed match rather than take a walkover, Petersfield’s high-flying colts met their Overton counterparts on Sunday, only to find that the visitors could only muster 12 players. Once more reflecting the spirit of rugby, Field matched numbers to make a game of it.
Field got off to a good start using the extra space on the pitch to move the ball through the hands with Heath finishing off in the corner. Matthews converted in windy conditions.
Overton did not take long to respond and scored two tries in quick succession despite Field initially having a bit more of the play.
In a match that was closer in style to ten-a-side rather than 15-a-side rugby, tries were exchanged between the sides with Heath adding to his tally and E Matthews joining Thomson to add to Field’s score. Field led 36-22 at half time.
Overton came back into the game strongly in the second half, and the packs fought for dominance at the breakdown. Overton battled back to bring the score to 43-43 to set up a thrilling conclusion to the game.
Hirst scored for Field having previously fumbled the ball at the crucial moment when at the whitewash. Woods and C White edged Field ahead again before Overton scored the last try of the game.
