Eastleigh Colts 17 Petersfield Colts 10: IN FAR from ideal conditions Petersfield Colts played at Eastleigh’s ground on a muddy and wet pitch.

Field managed to muster 15 players, albeit with a few playing out of position, in order to honour the fixture.

Field received the ball at the kick-off and spent most of the first 15 minutes dominating possession mostly in their own half, albeit with a few forays into the opposition’s territory.

However, Eastleigh broke the deadlock when they secured the ball at a breakdown and moved the ball deftly across the width of the pitch to score in the corner.

Field responded and turned their earlier dominance into points and effectively mauled the ball over the whitewash when Allen took the ball to ground to score.

The conversion was missed and the two sides were level at half time at 5-5.

After a bright start by Eastleigh to the second half, Field continued to win most of the ball in the forwards exchanges and the tactical use of the boot by Heath was astute and demonstrated his maturing decision making.

Truman capitalised on some opposition handling errors and raced through to touch down and give Field a 10-5 advantage.

With a couple of injuries in the Field team, Eastleigh sportingly lent them a couple of players and in the last ten minutes of the game Eastleigh finished strongly and scored two tries.

A very good conversion saw Eastleigh end the game 17-10 winners.
