Farnborough Colts 20 Petersfield Colts 7: PETERSFIELD Colts suffered a second league defeat of the season, as Farnborough beat them again.

Having swept all before them in 2015, Field have started 2016 with one win from three games.

The visitors started brightly and followed their game plan well enough to score an exemplary try in the first five minutes of the game at Farnborough. Quick ball through the backs released Heath on the wing, and his adept side steps allowed him to touch down under the posts. Mathews added the conversion. Despite further pressure Field did not manage to take full advantage of the wind in their favour to push ahead.

A flurry of forward work nearly resulted in another try for Field but Farnborough managed to clear their lines. On another occasion an attempted dummy near the try line for Field did not succeed when passing through the hands would have been the better option. Field did well to hold Farnborough at bay close to the end of the half to keep the score 7-0.

In the second half Farnborough managed to gain the upper hand at the breakdown whenever Field’s forwards failed to support and secure their colleagues efforts. Eventually the pressure told and Farnborough managed to squeeze a try in the corner. Conditions meant there were plenty of knock-ons and later in the half Farnborough used the wind on their backs to good advantage.

Field conceded a penalty for offside in front of their posts and fell 8-7 behind. Despite some stoic defence from Field the hosts scored again having created an overlap, and the conversion put Farnborough two scores ahead with minutes to go. The hosts then scored another try to win 20-7.
