Farnborough Colts 17 Petersfield Colts 24: PETERSFIELD Colts started their league campaign with a win against Farnborough.
Farnborough took the lead after ten minutes of fiercely contested ball. Farnborough were dominant in the ruck, and counter ruck, for much of the game, although solid defence and consistent quality tackling from Petersfield contained and managed the threat well.
Field responded and McKintosh forced his body over the line to level the score. Field eventually managed to create extra space for themselves with Wilde capitalising and converting shortly before half time. Field ignored an opportunity to potentially take penalty points, and the home side’s counter attack resulted in them pulling the score back to within two points.
Stoic pressure, good hands, and smart kicking from boot into space enabled Field to press ahead again with a try from Wilde and a stunning run from Keast to score, with the former converting to give Field a 24-10 lead.
Farnborough were not beaten and with a quarter of the match left pulled the score back to within a converted try. The visitors managed to maintain their lead to win 24-17.
