Old Tiffinians 31 Petersfield 31: FOLLOWING a narrow loss to Trojans in their last outing, Petersfield travelled to south London hoping that the momentum gained could provide the impetus for a win against Old Tiffinians.

A penalty on five minutes from Andy Barnes put the visitors into the lead before Josh Haslett scored Field’s first try and Matt Momber scored their second try.

The hosts benefitted from Field ill-discipline to score a pushover try from a penalty lineout. This score, bracketed by Field’s two tries and Barnes’ conversions, meant the visitors led 17-5 at half time.

The home side crossed the whitewash again with the new half barely a minute old. Field’s defence had been caught short on the right-hand side and a simple dummy allowed Old Tiffinians in for a converted try.

Field hit Tiffinians hard on the counter with a left-right combination that had the hosts reeling. Within the space of three minutes Eddie Matthews and then Haslett had scored tries which gave Field a four-try bonus point and a 31-12 lead.

When an Old Tiffinians player was yellow carded the game looked well and truly up for the hosts.

However, with a man still in the sin-bin, the hosts muscled their way over for a converted try and, when restored to full health, continued to harry their guests.

With pressure mounting and the final minutes in sight, Old Tiffinians struck again with two tries of their own in quick succession, one of which was converted, as the match finished 31-31.
