Petersfield 48 Farnborough 0: PETERSFIELD’S first team returned to league action on Saturday and showed that they had lost none of their edge in a one-sided game at Penns Place against struggling Farnborough.
The result puts Petersfield into second place behind leaders New Milton, with Fordingbridge moving to third after a rest week.
Field opened the scoring after eight minutes with a try from flanker Toby Armstrong followed five minutes later with a cheeky short grubber through from Frazer Patience which he collected over the line.
Harry Attwood then made major yards along the left wing from his own half to the defensive 22 and the supporting Armstrong was on hand to put Jack Glancy in for the score. Five minutes later another powerful run from Attwood led to Armstrong taking the glory, securing a brace for the match.
Glancy secured his own brace, using the supporting Tom Franks as a foil for a dummy to set the last defender back on his heels and out of contention. Chris Edwards then scored from close range following a powerful drive by Alex Patience.
The second half was a much scrappier affair and the home side could only turn their superior possession and territory into two further, unconverted, tries.
Franko Tomic added another try to his season’s tally and Jay Bremner scored the final try of the game.
Field were reduced to 14 men with ten minutes to go, but Farnborough were unable to break out of their half in a meaningful way.
