Petersfield 27 Fareham Heathens 5: HAVING failed to beat Fareham Heathens in the previous half-a-dozen encounters before this season, Field broke their duck in November with a 23-point margin victory at Cams Alders.

The visitors stunned Field with a try just one minute after the kick-off. Fareham regained possession from their kick-off and set up a number of phases to gain territory before driving over from close range.

It took Field until halfway through the first quarter to even the scores. Tom Franks fed Paul Hogden on the right wing, and Hogden powered through the last despairing tackle before scampering through to score.

After a series of penalty scrums on the visitors’ five-metre line, Field moved the ball out to Jack Glancy, who carried enough power and pace to cross the line despite a solid tackle and gave the hosts a 10-5 lead at half time.

The third try arrived at the end of the third quarter when Harley Orr broke down the blindside from the back of a lineout maul on the 22-metre line. The prolific scorer caught the defence flat-footed and there was no one to challenge him as he sprinted for the line.

The fourth try arrived when a series of penalty scrums on the defensive five-metre line finally resulted in the pack trundling Orr over the line for the score.

Field finished the game with their fifth try as Glancy burst through the defence and scored between the posts. Haslett added the conversion to make it 27-5.
