Petersfield 32 Old Tiffinians 13: A MORNING pitch inspection was required to confirm Petersfield’s fixture against Old Tiffinians on Saturday.
In the early moments following kick-off both sides exchanged possession as they worked their way into the game. However, it was Field who broke the deadlock with Seb Tuff crossing for an unconverted try. Infringements by the visitors allowed Nick Blumlein to increase the score with two penalties.
The Old Tiffinians took advantage of a penalty to claw back some points but Field stretched the lead again with a second try from stand-in scrum half Josh Haslett, converted by Blumlein.
Constant infringements stopped another score for the home side. The referee lost patience and awarded a yellow to Old Tiffinians for handling in the ruck.
The second half started much like the first and Field scored a try, this time through Harley Orr, converted by Blumlein.
Old Tiffinians then gained possession through Field penalties at the ruck to push the home side back into their own half. Field’s captain, Dan Luff, infringed to receive a yellow card. The extra man made the difference and the visitors crossed the line for an unconverted try.
With two minutes left Old Tiffinians scored another unconverted try in the corner.
The last try came when Old Tiffinians coughed up the ball, which was moved through the Field’s fast-moving backs to Will Jameson who finished off the move. Blumlein added the extras.
