Petersfield 23 Old Walcountians 25: WITH Petersfield and the Old Walcountians both going into Saturday’s RFU Junior Vase fixture with 100 per cent winning records, someone was going to be disappointed at the end of the day.

Field scored the first try when Bremner punted down the right hand touchline for Matthews to chase. The young speedster had his work cut out but managed to outpace the defence to touch down over the line. Haslett failed to secure the extras.

In a half littered with penalties on both sides, it was the Counts who were first to take a scoring advantage with a well-struck penalty as the first quarter drew to a close. Two minutes later, the visitors turned the free ball from a penalty advantage into their first try.

Field drew level with a Haslett penalty and then took the lead with a charge down try from prop Brown, only for the Counts to hit back with their own converted try to take the score to 13-15 just before the break.

Field kicked off and within a couple of minutes had retaken the lead by a single point, Haslett again unerring with the boot from another penalty. The visitors then launched a number of quick phases, overwhelming the scrambling defence to score a try on the wide right. The Counts then scored a try from a driving lineout maul to open up a 25-16 lead.

Gericke finished off a fine attacking move on the left-hand side and Haslett added the conversion, but Field were unable to mount another concerted attack.
