Petersfield 26 United Services Portsmouth 50: PETERSFIELD were beaten by United Services Portsmouth on Saturday.
Within four minutes of the kick-off the visitors had muscled their way down the park to score the first try.
Field responded well and accurate, quick passing put Eddie Matthews away for a scintillating sprint along the left wing. Matthews zipped past the defence to score Field’s first try, and Nick Blumlein added the extras.
A penalty lineout took the red team into the visitors’ 22 and, ball secured from the throw-in, the forwards rumbled through the phases until Nic Wilde broke the final line of defence to crash over under the posts. Blumlein added the extras.
The visitors responded and were given a five-metre scrum, which they used to good effect to score their second try. The missed conversion kept Field in the lead, but the visitors soon scored their third try from another five-metre scrum. The conversion was good, and the visitors led 19-14.
Field’s Seb Kay took the ball down his right wing into the visitors’ half of the pitch before feeding Matt Momber, and Momber crashed over for Field’s third try. Blumlein missed the conversion and the score was 19-19 at half time.
The visitors dominated the second half and scored four more converted tries and a penalty to bring up their half-century. Field scored the final try of the match when Toby Sydenham bullocked his way past the thinning defence to secure a bonus-point for his side.
