Ellingham & Ringwood 19 Petersfield 12: HAVING lost at home last week, Petersfield’s first team travelled to Ellingham and Ringwood hoping to get back to winning ways.
The trip proved to be in vain though as the side suffered their second loss on the trot to take them to mid-table on points-scored difference.
Field had the first chance to put points on the board, but Matt Painter’s penalty from halfway fell just short. Field continued to press but Ellingham and Ringwood’s fullback broke from his own 22 and carved through Field’s first line of defence before evading a tackle in midfield and going through to score.
The conversion of this try and two penalties from Ellingham and Ringwood’s kicker put the hosts 13-0 up.
With five minutes to the break Field were dealt another blow as they were reduced to 14 following a sin-binning for a high tackle.
Within a minute of the second half Field conceded a penalty and the home team extended their lead to 16-0.
Restored to 15, Field got on the board with a rolling maul from a lineout that crossed the whitewash on the right-hand side for their first try. The hosts then lost a man to the sin bin.
Five minutes into the final quarter, Toby Sydenham crashed over near the posts for Field’s second try. The conversion reduced the deficit to just four points.
The hosts had a chance to kick from halfway after Field were penalised and sin-binned for another high tackle, and the penalty sealed a 19-12 win for the hosts.
