Chineham 0 Petersfield 63: PETERSFIELD Rugby Club finished 2016 on a high as they secured their eighth win from ten league games with a nine-try thumping of league strugglers Chineham.
At the start of the year, Field were staring down the barrel of a gun, with relegation from Hampshire League 1 a distinct possibility. So far this season, Field have never dropped lower than second in the league and are challenging for promotion.
Field had the four try bonus point before the first half concluded. Playing down the hill in the first half, it wasn’t long before Sam Brown opened the scoring for Field and Jay Bremner doubled the lead halfway through the first quarter.
Just past the half hour mark Field were back on the scoreboard as Orr peeled from the back of a turned-over defensive five-metre scrum to barrel over the line.
Bremner’s pace carried him over the line for Field’s fourth try. Josh Haslett nailed the extras to keep his kicking record perfect.
Field took a little while to get used to playing up the hill in the second half, but Bremner scored Field’s fifth try.
Fraser Patience scored Field’s sixth try, and Ryan Morse scored Field’s third try in eight minutes.
Haslett added a try to his impressive personal score, and his conversion gave him a perfect eight conversions from eight attempts in less than ideal conditions.
Orr then crossed the line for his second try of the game, and Patience carried on where the substituted Haslett left off with the ninth conversion of the match.
