Petersfield remain nine points clear at the top of Hampshire Counties One after winning 57-24 at New Milton.
A hat-trick of tries for Miles Sampson, a pair for George Davis, and one each for Nick Blumlein, Ethan Ogilvie, Franco Tomic and Liam Perkins sealed another bonus-point win.
Field started quickly with fly half Blumlein jinking his way through New Milton’s defence to score after two minutes. Blumlein converted his own effort to put Field 7-0 up.
Field’s pack secured the restart ball and passed to the left wing for the powerful and rapid Sampson to shake off a tackler to score his first try of the day after six minutes. Blumlein added the extras.
From an attacking scrum New Milton’s fly half Christian Brown picked up the ball and ran round the blindside to shrug off and avoid two tacklers to score an unconverted try in the right corner.
Petersfield gained territory from the restart and from a ruck the pack secured quick ball for scrum half Alex Duffus to get his backline moving. The ball passed through four pairs of hands before Sampson scored close to the corner. Blumlein converted from a tight angle to make it 21-5.
Petersfield then stole a line-out when second row Tomic tapped down to hooker Sam Brown, who burst through the front of the lineout and was tackled five metres short of the try line. From the ruck number eight Liam Perkins launched a long miss pass from the centre of the pitch to right winger Ogilvie, who sliced through the defence to score Petersfield’s bonus-point try. Blumlein added the conversion to make it 28-5.
With five minutes of the half left a high pass was held by a leaping Matt Momber, who passed into the hands of an advancing Perkins. Perkins passed inside to the supporting Tomic, who crashed over to score Field’s fifth try. Blumlein added the extras to give Field a 35-5 lead at half-time.
Field scored three minutes into the second half when Blumlein’s well-directed and weighted crossfield kick was passed to George Davis, who split New Milton’s defence to score close to the posts. Blumlein added the conversion.
Just a few minutes later a scrum ten metres out from New Milton’s line was won by Field, with Perkins picking up and ploughing his way through the defence to score under a heap of New Milton’s defenders to make it 47-5.
From a tapped penalty centre Greg Jansen broke though and passed to Davis, who scored an unconverted try.
Field’s Brown then received a yellow card for indiscipline.
New Milton scored an unconverted try at the start of the final quarter after a series of attacking rucks forced Field’s defence to splinter.
From the restart Sampson clattered his way through the line to complete his hat-trick, before New Milton responded with a converted try.
New Milton full-back Luke Day scored the home side’s bonus-point try, and a routine conversion made it 57-24.
