Farnborough 7 Petersfield 30: PETERSFIELD’S first team continued their impressive start to the 2016-17 season with another bonus point win, the latest against Farnborough on Saturday.

Field’s perfect start to the year puts them at the top of Hampshire League 1, a position they could only dream about last year as they toiled to remain in the league.

The first scrum was demolished by Field, resulting in a penalty which was coolly converted by Painter.

It took until the middle of the second quarter for Field to score the first try of the game. Returning scrum-half Roberts quickly serviced Bremner from the base of another successful scrum. The stand-off fed Franks who ran a powerful outside-in line, brushing off an attempted tackle to score on the line.

Field increased their lead at the end of the half with an excellently finished try from Matthews. Painter added the extras to give Field a 15-0 lead at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half Painter nailed a kick from close to the 10-metre line to stretch Field’s lead.

Field’s defence failed to tidy up an awkwardly bouncing ball just before the end of the third quarter, and the hosts took advantage to find their way through for a try.

MacGillivray bookended the last quarter with tries, the last of which guaranteed the visitors the four-try bonus point for the second time this season. Painter kicked one and missed one in the tricky conditions. In between these scores, the hosts went down to 14 men, thanks to a yellow card three minutes before the end.
