Petersfield 34 Andover 22: PETERSFIELD returned to winning ways against Andover on Saturday afternoon.

Field put on a breathless display of controlled, assertive rugby that blew their guests away and saw them go 19-0 up within 30 minutes.

Having threatened from the kick-off, Field opened their account halfway through the first quarter as Eddie Matthews jinked through three flat-footed defenders to score and Nick Blumlein slotted the extras.

Field continued to press hard and got their reward four minutes later through a lung-bursting sprint from Seb Tuff. Blumlein’s conversion was unsuccessful.

Sam Brown scored Field’s next try, as the pack got in on the act with a powerful drive inches from the line. Blumlein added the extras.

Andover managed to turn a foray into the Field 22 into a try, which was well converted, to cut the deficit and bring the half to an end.

In the second half Field allowed their opponents back into the game through ill-discipline. While they were never behind on the scoreboard, they gifted the visitors sufficient ball and territory for them to secure a four-try bonus point.

Field took their points where they could and Blumlein got the home side’s score ticking midway through the third quarter with a penalty.

Tom Land scored Field’s bonus-point fourth try midway through the half and Matt Momber added the fifth try in the final minutes of the match. Blumlein converted the latter and missed the extras for the former to bring the score to 34-22.
