Isle of Wight 51 Petersfield 10: PETERSFIELD suffered their fifth straight league defeat on Saturday with a comprehensive loss to fellow league strugglers Isle of Wight RFC.
The short hop across the Solent continues to be an issue for Field as they seldom return from the Island with a victory.
Max Kemp and Chis Adams provided the two tries that allowed Field a small measure of respectability in that they were not sent back to the mainland with empty pockets. The 41-point margin, however, will have been a bitter pill to swallow after the team played so well to almost steal an unlikely victory in their previous match, against fourth-placed Millbrook.
Coach Andy Patience said that the team didn’t play to their full potential and were beaten by the better team on the day, although he was delighted with the terrific team spirit and togetherness shown by not only his squad but the senior section as a whole.
Field’s first team hope to keep their unbeaten cup run going next week as they travel to Hastings and Bexhill RFC for the next round of the Hampshire Cup.
