New Milton 32 Petersfield 37: PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s first league game of the new season was against relegated team New Milton.
Field dominated at the scrum throughout the first half by driving New Milton off their own scrum, and it was from the set piece Field gained their first penalty.
However, poor discipline allowed New Milton a penalty in Field’s 22, which allowed them to score a try.
Petersfield dominated the first 25 minutes, scoring a try through Tom Francs.
After the successful conversion Field switched off and allowed New Milton back in the game with sloppy reactions at a penalty, which they scored at the posts.
Field marched down the pitch and Harley scored a try just before half time and the first half finished 15-18.
The second half started with Field gaining two penalties in quick succession, which were converted.
Field continued to be successful in open play and their next points came off the back of a lineout and with a good maul Petersfield drove over the line to score a try.
After gaining a 15-point lead the game became scrappy and took a while to settle again, and Field lost captain Dan Luff and Ben Hooper to injuries.
A penalty in Field’s own half allowed New Milton to score another try, but Field marched up the field and scored a fine team try which was successfully converted.
Both teams swapped penalties, and poor discipline in the final seconds of the game allowed New Milton to score another penalty, as Petersfield won 37-32.
