Petersfield 2nd XV 66 Stoneham 12: PETERSFIELD’S second team won their penultimate match of the season at a canter on Saturday with a 66-12 victory against Stoneham’s first team.
The score could have been higher if Field’s normally reliable kicker, Alex Groves, had potted more than three of the 12 conversions on offer.
Stoneham competed well in the tight, albeit Field dominated in the scrum as they have all season, but they had no answer when the ball moved out to the speedsters in Field’s back line. The pick of the tries were the brace from Ryan Morse and the sprint finish from doughty hooker, James Excell-Coombes, the former outpacing his winger to score his second in the corner.
The result sets up a tense finish to the season as Field meet second-placed Fareham Heathens at home next weekend. As things stand, if Field win the game they guarantee the league title. If they lose they have to wait for the result of Fareham’s final match.
