Trojans 17 Petersfield 14: PETERSFIELD’S first team slipped to a close defeat at Trojans on Saturday.

Field’s opening try came from a mistake by Trojans, flinging a hopeful pass that was picked off by Franko Tomic. He sprinted from the Trojans ten-metre line, and was felled just shy of the line. Nick Blumlein collected Tomic’s pass and crossed for the easiest of tries, which he duly converted.

Field continued to knock on the door, and a lineout drive from a penalty looked to have secured Field’s second try, but the ball was called as held up and the opportunity passed.

Field led 7-0 at half time, but Trojans scored their first try, which was unconverted, after just four minutes of the second half. Trojans’ second try came from a five-metre scrum, which was wheeled to the left to put the number eight within a couple of metres for the score, which was duly converted.

Poor handling in midfield then gave Trojans the chance to fly-hack through to the in-goal area. Eddie Matthews looked to have recovered quickly enough to deny the score, but he was denied by the chasing referee.

The unconverted try put Field outside of losing bonus point range, so when they got a kickable penalty they decided to go for the three-points to salvage something from the game, but Josh Haslett missed the target.

Field went on the attack and, after having one try disallowed, crossed the whitewash for a second time when Dave Head barrelled through to ground on the line. Blumlein added the extras.
