Petersfield 3 Portsmouth 51: PETERSFIELD’S first team picked up a number of injuries as they suffered a thumping from Portsmouth.
Field’s hopes took a very early knock with the loss of Harley Orr, who was left with a broken foot after two minutes. Zaren Hawkes joined the action from the bench.
On ten minutes Portsmouth rolled Field’s scrambling defence up the pitch before scoring their first converted try.
Toby Sydenham left the pitch for treatment and Gareth Crane joined the action after a long period of absence. From the re-start, Field forced Portsmouth to concede a penalty. Field went for the points and Nick Blumlein easily brought the deficit back to four points.
Field held out for another five minutes before the visitors swung the ball wide and beat the defence on the wing to score their second try.
Field captain Dan Luff was helped from the pitch with an ankle injury. As a result, the hosts could not field a specialist front row and the scrums became uncontested. Field had one substitute on the bench, although Sydenham returned to the fray.
Portsmouth crossed the line again before the break, and Field lost another player to injury as Alex Patience suffered a potential concussion in the build up to the score. The last substitute, Jordan Allan, joined the action.
Portsmouth scored their fourth try after the break, and Field picked up another injury when Matt Momber suffered a fractured eye socket. Field were down to 14 players, and Portsmouth scored five more tries.
