Tottonians 3rd XV 20 Petersfield 2nd XV 35: PETERSFIELD’S second team made the journey to Tottonians on Saturday in high spirits following a 54-point thrashing of Haslemere in a friendly.

A good move from Tottonians stretched the Field defence, before a solid tackle loosened the ball. Defence turned into attack as quick hands sent Carl Sharrock powering up the wing.

Sharrock offloaded in the tackle to Dan Groves who continued the rampaging run, handing off desperate defenders.

Groves was stopped inches from the line but reached over to score.

With much of the game played in the middle of the park, the visitors used field position to turn Tottonians’ defence, only to be undone by a poor kick or chase.

The breakdown in structure this created led to another counter-attacking try for Field. This time it was Kieran Gericke who turned provider, stopping the Tottonians fullback and jarring the ball loose in contact. Gareth MacGillivray secured the ball and easily outpaced the back line to score under the posts.

A dip in fitness in the last quarter allowed a late surge from the hosts, but Field won comfortably.
