Petersfield 2nd XV 34 Overton 2nd XV 27: WELCOMING several colts to the side, Field started brightly and looked to use their youthful back line against a much bigger and heavier Overton team.
A break through the centre by Rankin saw Potter take it on before the ball went wide to Crosdil who touched down in the corner. Groves added the extras.
Field’s second try came from a scrum as the home side went through the phases before spreading the ball wide, with Excell cutting in to touch down.
A solid Overton forward drive saw them cut through the defence to touch down, and a five-yard scrum on the Field line then saw the ball go wide for Overton to score.
The Overton pack then rolled on to touch down again and give the visitors a 15-12 lead. Field finished the half well when Groves cut back in to score, converting his own try, to give the hosts a 19-15 lead at half time.
In the second half a scrum on the Field five-yard line saw Overton drive over to touch down. Groves inspired the comeback with a little chip and chase, and he passed to Marsh who drew the cover before putting Thomas in to score. Groves added the conversion and he also slotted over a penalty.
Barden scored Field’s next try and Groves added the extras. Overton drove up the park, and with Field offside at the breakdown, they chose a scum and broke off to score in the corner.
With five minutes left Overton pressed for another try, but good defence by Field kept the visitors out.
