Petersfield 3rd XV 19 Chobham 4th XV 17: PETERSFIELD’S third team took strength from their home support to close out their friendly game 19-17 against Chobham’s fourth team.
An often spicy encounter, the fixture belied its friendly billing and the cutting wind sweeping across Penns Place did nothing to cool the enthusiasm of the two teams. Dan Giles, Mike Stamp and Eddie Mathews all took tries. It was the young Mathews who almost prevented the last score of the game as Chobham pushed over the line. Thinking quickly he ripped the ball from the diving attacker only for the ball to fall back into the same player’s arms as he completed his forward movement. This proved to be the last action of the match.
The third team have now put on a run of four wins across league and friendly fixtures and are growing in confidence. This will stand them in good stead next week when they host Farnborough’s second team in the league.
