Warlingham 50 Petersfield 0: PETERSFIELD travelled to Warlingham for their penultimate game of the season.
With relegation from London 3 South West confirmed, Field have only pride to play for this season.
They began the day on the backfoot before the match had even started, as the squad arrived at Warlingham a man light.
Petersfield’s squad featured only eight of the team that had beaten Warlingham 17-14 at Penns Place in the reverse league fixture.
The colts and second team players who stepped up performed admirably, giving their all in the service of their club but, ultimately, Field were effectively outgunned around the pitch.
Warlingham were comfortable winners, but the visitors had their moments only to be let down by a lack of accuracy in completion.
Field did cross the whitewash at the end of the game after a barnstorming five minutes in the home side’s 22 that had the hosts conceding a hatful of penalties.
However, Field’s captain and inside centre, Matt Momber, was ruled in touch by the Warlingham linesman and the game ended with the home side maintaining a clean sheet.
Despite the defeat, Field’s youngsters impressed with Will Mathews showing promise at full back on his first team debut, while fellow backs Olly Pope and Jim Tribe, and lock Tom Potter, continue to show great promise for the future.
Field entertain Portsmouth at Penns Place on Saturday, April 6 (3pm) in their last match of the season.
