Petersfield 3rd XV 27 Fareham Heathens 2nd XV 22: A STORMING second half from Petersfield Rugby Club’s third team saw them triumph 27-22 against Fareham Heathens’ second team.
Due to a tournament at Petersfield Rugby Club, the match was played at Midhurst Rugby Club.
Within 20 minutes Fareham were 17-0 ahead and looking confident.
But bang on 25 minutes Petersfield won good scrum ball inside Heathens half, and a superb move ended with Sam Rogers scoring.
At half time the score was 17-5 to the visitors, but Petersfield were firing on all cylinders, and from a driving maul Shane Brown drove over from ten metres, bringing the score to 17-12.
Petersfield kept up the pressure, but Heathens managed to reply with a score, and went into the last 20 minutes 22-12 ahead.
Then Petersfield’s Dan Freeman intercepted a Fareham pass and ran almost the length of the pitch to touch down.
From the re-start Field launched a series of drives, which ended with Dave Sloan cutting through the defence and scoring, making the teams level.
Then from a well won Field line out, Freeman drew the defence, and popped the ball to Ray Farr, who ran 30 metres for a winning try.
Petersfield skipper Chris West said: “It was a storming result against a well drilled team.
“We were facing a big loss, but our nerve held, and we worked our way back into it and for the last 30 minutes we were the better team.”
