Teddington 13 Petersfield 12: PETERSFIELD travelled to Teddington on Saturday looking to secure their second win of the season.

Despite the wet and heavy pitch Field started the game positively, and it wasn’t long before they were on the scoreboard – Seb Kay crossed the whitewash and Nick Blumlein added the extras. In the second quarter Teddington got enough territory and possession to score, but not draw level, with their try unconverted.

Field extended their lead when Blumlein essayed a kick which had the precision to allow Tom Land to beat three defenders, collect the ball and score a try. Blumlein missed the conversion.

It was the hosts that benefitted from penalties in the second half, the most telling being a tap and go which Seb Kay stopped by encroaching on the ten-metre exclusion zone, and he received a yellow card for his indiscretion.

With the man advantage, possession and territory, Teddington still couldn’t find points. However, a reaction to being held off the ball saw Field’s Seb Tuff sent to the bin. Field were now down to 13 players and what had already been a backs-to-the-wall defence became even more fraught. Despite some good defence, the lack of numbers told and Teddington eventually found a gap to score in the corner. The missed conversion left Field with a two-point lead.

As the match drew to a close Field were penalised in a kickable location, and Teddington accepted the three points on offer to take the lead for the first time and win the match.
