PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s investment in young player development took another step to paying off at the weekend as newly qualified referees and under-15 players Mattie Currie and Joseph Chads refereed at the county under-nine festival at Penns Place.

Sporting their new Petersfield Referee Society shirts they officiated pool and semi-final matches to a high standard.

The club has looked to invest in a number of initiatives with its young players including RFU Tag and Rugby Ready courses as well as the Level 1 Referees course.

Outside of refereeing, Currie was also involved in organising and officiating at the Primary School Tag competition at Penns Place which saw pupils from Steep, Herne and Langrish battle it out for silverware.

The courses Mattie is undertaking and his participation in events like the Tag and County Tournament are all helping him towards his Duke of Edinburgh award.
