PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s ladies’ second team fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Fleet and Ewshot ladies’ second team on Saturday.

Having lost 9-0 at Fleet and Ewshot earlier in the season, Petersfield were keen to make an early impact.

The visitors went on the attack early on and won themselves a short corner in the first five minutes.

However, good defending from Payne, Pearson and Preston meant the shot was pushed away.

Petersfield then won a short corner, and their effort went just wide of the goal.

The first half saw several short corners at both ends, and the play became stretched.

After 17 minutes Fleet and Ewshot managed to draw Pearson out of the goal and pass the ball around the back of her to score their first goal.

Petersfield then retaliated with a good run up the pitch from Day and an opportunistic shot across the D.

The play remained equally matched, with fine play from Petersfield’s Geer and De Lotbinere in midfield, but there was no further score from either side before half time.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the second half with a sharp effort which went past Amesbury and B Jones.

Pearson continued to defend well as the visitors pushed for more goals.

Fleet and Ewshot did manage to score a third goal though, despite the best efforts of Owsnett.

The home side pulled a goal back ten minutes from the end after Day went on a run up the wing and passed to Hulme. The ball then made its way to Choularton, who passed the ball past the goalkeeper to make the final score 3-1.

This was a much-improved Petersfield performance compared to the 9-0 defeat earlier in the season, which shows just how well the team has improved this season.
