PETERSFIELD Ladies’ second team picked up a useful point as they drew 2-2 at Bournemouth Ladies’ fifth team.

Petersfield named a strong 11, which included Izzy Wiles returning on the wing having caused so much trouble to Bournemouth in Petersfield’s win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Bournemouth made the brighter start, with Carys Pearson needing to make a sharp stick save early on.

Petersfield quickly grew into the game, though, and found a lot of success through the right-hand side of the pitch.

The visitors took the lead when Wiles pulled the ball back to Zoe Simmonds, who calmly slotted into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.

Petersfield continued to have the better of the half, playing some excellent hockey in a very competitive game.

Bournemouth equalised ten minutes before half time. The initial shot from the right-hand side was kicked away by Pearson, but only to two Bournemouth players on the left-hand side of the D who then poked the ball under the keeper’s follow-up dive.

On 35 minutes Petersfield thought they should have gone ahead when a well-hit shot by Simmonds found the backboard, only to have it ruled out for being hit outside the D.

Petersfield regained the lead in the second half when a series of slick passes found Simmonds at the top of the D to unload one of her trademark strikes to the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.

Bournemouth got themselves back on level terms with ten minutes to go, with a similar goal to their first.

The ladies now have a week off before hosting the bottom side, Winchester Ladies’ fourth team.
