West Wilts Veterans 1 Petersfield Veterans 6: PETERSFIELD Veterans, missing most of their midfield engine room, put in a controlled performance that saw them to a straightforward victory.
Petersfield started the game well, passing the ball accurately, with Dryden-Brownlee and Parker finding plenty of space out wide and giving good service to Hulme and Pruden. Hulme had shots saved by the keeper and a defender on the line, while Parker hit the post.
Pruden miss-hit his shot after a powerful drive into the D, but it turned out to be a good pass that Davis dispatched with aplomb.
Petersfield dominated with good link up play, particularly from Cornett and Parker, scything through the West Wilts defence. This led to a ten minute purple patch for Pruden, when three reverse stick strikes evaded the West Wilts keeper and gave him his hat-trick.
Petersfield’s dominance continued in the second half, but Cornett’s retirement after ten minutes coupled with Pruden’s injury-related immobility and some basic mistakes gave West Wilts the initiative for a short period.
West Wilts pulled a goal back when Broadmeadow left a gap at the near post that the West Wilts’ left wing exploited with glee.
Petersfield then regained their composure, scoring two further goals through Davis’ sweep from the top of the D and Thompson’s flicked thunderbolt.
Petersfield were well worth their win and, with the league title already in the bag, look forward to the run-in.
