Petersfield 2 Bournemouth II 4: PETERSFIELD hosted Bournemouth’s second team on an overcast afternoon.
Petersfield started slowly and were unable to string passes together without giving away possession, and Bournemouth converted a penalty corner.
The home side responded immediately with an attack which ended with a strike from Atkinson which flew into the roof of the net.
Bournemouth then converted a further two penalty corner routines to take a two-goal lead into the break.
Petersfield controlled the game after the break, creating many chances, but they were unable to beat the Bournemouth keeper again.
The home side defended well and eventually got their reward for their attacking pressure when Terry deflected the ball past the keeper to make it 3-2.
Petersfield continued to press, and the frustrated visitors lost their discipline as yellow cards became the new fashion.
Bournemouth crowded the circle and held on while Petersfield banged on the door from every angle. Despite all the pressure, the equaliser didn’t arrive.
The visitors then grabbed a fourth goal when the ball was struck with pinpoint precision on the reverse into the bottom corner.
Both teams continued to battle away until the final whistle, with Bournemouth running out 4-2 winners.
Petersfield will face a tough test tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain the runaway league leaders City of Portsmouth at Dunhurst School (1pm).
