STEEP Tennis Club’s junior teams had mixed success at this year’s winter junior league competition.

The under-16 boys’ team, had some tough matches and finished last in their box.

The under-14 boys’ team, consisting of many of the same players as in the under-16 team, came first in Division 3, having defeated Southsea Tennis Club 4-2, Denmead Tennis Club 4-3, Active Aces 6-0 and Compton and Shawford 6-0.

In the upcoming months the under-16 team will embark on their spring and summer campaign in the Team Tennis league.

Steep also field two men’s teams in the event. Club head coach and team captain Dave Gaterell, a world ranked seniors’ player, will be leading the first team.

Dave said: “This is always my favourite event of the year. I love team tennis, it’s a lot of fun, very competitive and you get to play with friends in a friendly environment.”

This season the men’s A team is placed in County Division 1. The B team will be in County Division 3 and the juniors will play in County Division 3.

While the club team are gearing up for a busy season of competition, the team of coaches are getting ready to deliver a packed season of coaching and events, for beginners through to advanced players of all ages.
