STEEP Tennis Club has hosted its annual junior club championships.

This year was the first time the club were able to hold an under-nine mixed event.

Altogether, the club had an under-nine mixed singles, an under-12 boys’ singles, an under-12 girls’ singles, an under-14 boys’ singles, an under-16 girls’ singles and an under-16 boys’ singles.

The weather was good and the players all competed hard and showed good sportsmanship throughout, with one boy in the under-16 event even lending his opponent one of his rackets after his opponent’s string broke.

Some of the players are quite experienced competitors, and a few were playing their first match – but all had a good day, and ended with a lot of smiles.

After some hard battles, the under-nine mixed singles was won by James Graham. The runner-up was Noelle Elrick and the bronze medal was won by Stephen Powell.

The under-12 boys’ singles was won by Harlan Seaton and the runner-up was Oliver Patient.

The under-12 girls’ singles was won by Katy Goodship and the runner-up was Zola Thomas.

The under-16 girls’ singles was won by Florence Wassenberg and the runner-up was Eliza McFarlane.

The under-16 boys’ singles was won by Owen Palmer and the runner-up was Theo Paul.
