STEEP Tennis Club has competed in the Lawn Tennis Association’s team tennis event, putting forward three teams.
The boys’ under-16 team came a very close second out of five teams, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Andover by just a few match rubbers.
This year’s roster included Patrick Smith, Noah Lowe, Owen Palmer, Jude Inkley, Theo Paul, Ben Greening, Louis Anderson, Max and Elliot White, Alex Renney and Fin MacNeil.
The men’s B team faired quite well in Division 4, managing to come third with wins against Totton and Portsmouth Tennis Centre.
The roster included Palmer, Anderson, Jon Graham, Matt Clark, Matt Swanton, Matt Thompson, Henry Thomas, Izaak Hews and Ralph Lambert.
The men’s A team had one of their best years to date, beating all comers to win Division 2 and gain promotion for next year.
With the addition of university student Dylan Allenby-Ryan from Alton, more depth was added to an already strong line-up.
In the team’s first match of the season they managed to beat Milford on the tiebreak shoot-out, which proved to be a decisive result, as Milford came second, losing only to Steep.
The A team roster included Allenby-Ryan, Thompson, Palmer, Dave Gaterell, Matt Fernandez, Barry Carter and Philippe Mougin.
Because of an injury, Steep were only able to field three players for their fixture against Alverstoke – but Steep still managed to win the match.
