WITH so many matches having to be cancelled due to the wet weather, Steep managed to complete a home fixture against Tillington.
The visitors batted first, making a total of 105. Louise Simac contributed a forceful 28 and Cally Whittington 16.
With the introduction of some inexperienced bowlers extras amounted to 13, and this proved to be the difference between the two teams.
Steep’s innings started slowly, but newcomer Toni made a very promising 24 runs. In spite of a dash of runs in the last three overs from Lauren Preston, who scored 19 not out, the home team fell short of the required total, finishing on 92.

Alton score stoppage-time equaliser to earn draw at Eversley & CaliforniaSteep managed to reach the final of their own tournament, winning the short four-over matches against Ebernoe, Northchapel, Midhurst and Stedham, but were soundly defeated in the final by Tillington, who had come through by defeating Wisborough Green, the Steep scratch team, Three Counties and Lodsworth.
At the Lodsworth tournament, Steep defeated Fittleworth, Lodsworth and Tillington to reach the final against Northchapel.
Northchapel only scored 40 runs in their four overs, and Steep managed to overtake this score with six balls to spare. Hannah Lindsey scored a remarkable 101 runs throughout the day.
Tomorrow (Sunday) will see the first representative team from the Wessex Friendlies teams play the Coastal League at Cowdray Park, Midhurst, at 10.30am.
There are 10 teams in the Wessex Friendlies, and players will be drawn from as many teams as possible.
